Mission Critical

Modular secure room animation

Complete solutions for IT, from process technology to the highest level of secure facilities.

In an IT dependant world, the Modular Secure Room (MSR) saves money, mitigates risk, standardizes the spatial design and equipment integration, and provides businesses with the ability to focus on the potential of performance unencumbered by threat, rather than trying to work under the pressing realities of a possible failure. As our reliance on the uninterrupted performance of an IT system increases, maintaining operations and risk mitigation are by many accounts, the primary concerns being addressed by most businesses today. Millions upon millions of dollars are spent each year in an effort to ensure that all IT functions run fluidly. Countless hours of valuable resources are dedicated and lost aimed at creating the most secure practices and procedures for keeping a company’s operations going. Due to a wide array of human and environmental influences that typically and most often knock these systems out, businesses are faced with the formidable task of maintaining their existence under extremely precarious circumstances.

Mitigation of risks and standardized design

The MSR eliminates over 60% of the specific IT threats that businesses face everyday while providing defensive measures to prevent another 15%. With advanced, superior technology, the “turn key” solutions that HP Partner/Reseller provides offer IT systems integration for data, as well as the complete infrastructure. A fully functioning, secure IT facility with guaranteed protection against fire, water, heat, dust, humidity, acrid gases, smoke, radio frequency (RF), EMI/EMP’s, theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, and explosions. The applications of the MSR means that instead of the “data center” being a conceptual design developed as a part of the building plan, the “room” now becomes a five/six-sided modular piece of equipment that: a) does not necessarily subject IT to physical or technological vulnerabilities; b) is independent of the building architecture; c) standardizes the spatial configuration of the data facility without being restricted by predisposed structural conditions; d) singularly standardizes the engineering and implementation of all integrated environmental and peripheral elements (i.e. raised floor, UPS, A/C, generators, PDU’s, PMM’s, transformer switches, fire detection and suppression systems, etc); and e) with a flexible design, prioritizes the technological needs of a business as the main determinant in establishing the appropriate size of the facility, as opposed to making critical business decisions simply based on what space happens to be available.

Once an installation is complete, should the MSR have to be changed, then all changes to the environmental and peripheral elements remain a function of the original calculations used to make the initial decision. With the engineering of the MSR standardized, regardless of where the installation takes place, its implementation is unlimited and its replication is absolute. Because the MSR is not a capital improvement fixed to a property, and because the size can expand or be reduced, and because it can be removed and reinstalled anywhere a business should go, the entire MSR can be leased. Thereby, enabling a business’s capital resources to be allocated in ways other than developing infrastructure.

How to determine “What you Need”

It’s simple. First, determine your IT requirements with a HP Partner. From this, the number of 19” racks (24” x 30” actual footprint) needed to manage the technology will become evident. Managing the number of racks needed is then a spatial, logistical and technical equation. All of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and architectural requirements associated with the physical space have been pre-calculated and considered. The final structural implications have also been anticipated and the cost of an Engineering Analysis is included with each model to determine how the successful integration of the MSR is to be introduced at your site.

Selection criteria include:

  • All MSR square foot sizes are based upon the maximum amount of 19” racks that can fit into the pre-configured area. Allowances have been made to meet building egress codes and service requirements. Additional space has been allotted for all environmental equipment such as UPS and battery (except 10K sq. ft. facilities), A/C and other peripheral elements.
  • Anticipated growth of at least 25% for power and air requirements has been calculated with each model.
  • Power requirements for hardware equipment rack is critical to size all environmental equipment. We have sized all equipment based on industry average of 100 watts per square foot. Prior to selecting final UPS and AC equipment, verification of hardware loads shall be performed in the Engineering Analysis,
  • The UPS equipment has been sized for 40 watts per square foot, plus an additional growth factor of 25%. Exact UPS configurations and product options have been pre-selected by us. UPS requirements must be verified.
  • Mechanical air conditioning equipment has been sized for the full heat load of the MSR in an N+1 configuration so that one AC unit can fail or be serviced without any effect on facility environmentals.
  • Fire protection systems are included and pre-packaged based on the size of the facility.
  • Engineering Analysis are required with each purchase and may be purchased separately. Should the MSR be purchased after the Engineering Analysis is complete, then the cost of the Engineering Analysis will be applied to the final cost of the MSR.
  • Price listed (List Price) is based on the above referenced criteria and will be adjusted accordingly in the final submittal along with the reaults of the completed engineering analysis.
